The O.C. Reunion Isn't Happening Any Time Soon, Says Boss Josh

Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody sparked hopes earlier this week with a photo on Instagram.

The O.C. boss Josh Schwartz has dashed the prospect of a reunion, admitting it’s not about to happen any time soon.

Hopes of a reboot of the hit US teen drama peaked earlier this week when two of its stars, Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody, posted a photo together on Instagram after bumping into each other at an airport.

Rachel – better known as Orange County’s Summer Roberts – also went on the record with her hopes to reunite the show’s cast on screen.

However, the series’ creator has said that for him, the show was neatly wrapped up when it ended back in 2007.

Speaking at the 2019 Television Critics Association press tour, Josh said: “That was brought up at one point, we were asked about doing a return to The OC to see those kids grown up. For us, that was a very, very singular story.

“We felt like we completed that tale by the end,” he added.

It’s a sentiment Adam, who played Seth Cohen, appeared to share too.

During an interview on BUILD in New York, he said he had no desire to revisit the character.

He said: “I would imagine at some point they will use the property to do [a reboot] in some way, and I’m all for it. I don’t mind these reboots or even remakes.

“All that said, I’m not gonna be [involved]. I don’t have any interest in revisiting my high school character. And frankly speaking for Ben McKenzie, I know he doesn’t either.”

He added: “I know it’s silly. How dare I turn down fake work? But creatively, I’m not that interested.”

Rachel – who dated Adam in real life 2003 to 2006, as well as on screen – previously told PopWow: “It was such a great show and a great group. I’m still super close with [series creators] Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. I would trust them with my life. So, anywhere they would go I would follow. Of course, I’d be open to it. It’s a very fond memory for me and something I’m super grateful for.”

Of where she thinks Summer – who married Seth in a flash forward at the end of the final episode – would be now, she added: “I would imagine that she’s had kids. I would also think that she’s fighting for something. Perhaps a cause, or maybe she’s a lawyer.

“She’d definitely have her hand in the philanthropy world. It’d be really interesting to see them as adults.”

The O.C., which focused on the lives of teens and their parents living in Orange County in California, ran for four seasons from 2003 to 2007 making stars out of Rachel, Adam and co-stars Ben McKenzie and Misha Barton.

Yup, still super cute. Anyway, what's Adam been up to in the years since 'The O.C.' ended? He's now about to become a dad for the first time, after his wife Leighton Meester (yes, Gossip Girl's Blair Waldorf!) gave birth in 2015. His career has gone from strength-to-strength too, as he recently starred in the US TV show 'Billy And Billie', which received rave reviews, and has also made appearances on the big screen, in movies 'Baggage Claim', 'Welcome To The Jungle' and 'Scream 4'. Ben is currently starring in the hit TV series 'Gotham', but in the years immediately after 'the final season of 'The O.C.', the star focused his efforts on films, making appearances in 'Johnny Got His Gun', 'Decoding Annie Parker' and 'Goodbye World'. Rachel hasn't aged a day since stealing Seth's (and our) heart, though she is now a mum, after welcoming her a daughter with boyfriend Hayden Christensen in 2014. The couple met on set of 'Jumper', though TV fans of today won't need telling that Rachel's biggest success since leaving Orange County behind, is her sitcom, 'Hart Of Dixie'. Sadly though, the series was axed after four seasons. (credit:Kevin Mazur via Getty Images)

Mischa's had a rocky ride since the show ended, and while she's experienced career success in the movie world, her personal life has often hit headlines. In April 2015, Mischa started legal proceedings against her mother, claiming that stole money and had damaged her reputation. The actress has also taken on a number of refreshingly different projects, starring in a Noel Gallagher music video and launching her own fashion lines. She was also a contestant on the US version of 'Strictly Come Dancing', 'Dancing With The Stars' in 2016, but didn't hit it off with partner Artem Chigvintsev, and later said she "no idea it would be so bad". First things first: Wow - what a moustache. Bravo, Peter. During 'The O.C.' Peter released an album, keeping his vocal chords in training for a return to Broadway when the show finished. In the summer of 2015, he was trod the boards in 'On the Twentieth Century'. He's also had small roles on a number of hit US TV shows, including 'How I Met Your Mother' and 'Law And Order', and in 2016, he popped up in four episodes of 'New Girl' as Gavin Schmidt. Julie was everyone's favourite baddie with a heart, and after hanging up her stilettos, Melinda continued working with 'The O.C.' creator Josh Schwartz, making a guest appearance in his show 'Chuck'. She's also lent her voice to a series of projects, including 'King Of The Hill' and a 'Mission Impossible' game. She also starred alongside former 'O.C.' co-star Benjamin McKenzie, when she had a two-episode guest stint in 'Gotham' in 2016. (credit:Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP)

More excitingly, she played the formidable Julie Cooper in the one-off 'The O.C' musical in 2015. Most recently, she starred alongside Tom Hanks in the film 'Sully', which told the story of the 2009 emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River in New York. Tate, AKA Hercules, has been pretty busy in recent years, and he reprised his role as the voice of Disney's hero for a new video game in 2013. He's also been getting political, and was one of the many A-listers to back Barack Obama for presidency in 2008, and re-election in 2012. If you don't know him, this is Josh Schwartz, who is the man we have to thank for creating 'The O.C.' - and he still has Captain Oats. Well aware that Oats is probably the most important horse in teen drama history, Josh kept him - with Princess Sparkle(!!) - and he still sits on his desk. See the pic that proves it here.
