The Voicehopeful Jaz Ellington took the judges' breath away on Saturday's episode, but he almost pulled out of the show after suffering an asthma attack days before the audition.

Will.i.Am and Jessie J had tears in their eyes during Ellington's stunning rendition of John Legend's Ordinary People, and he's being tipped as one of the favourites to win the BBC contest.

However, the singer was fraught with worry about the prospect of being unable to appear on the show after he was hospitalised with breathing problems.

He says: "I was sitting in hospital asking the doctors, 'Am I going to be able to audition?' and they said, 'We'll see'. I was going out of my mind. I was thinking to myself, 'I need to get the hell out of here and get to this audition. I have to go even if my voice is not back by then. I have to step on that stage'."
