Peter Kay Announces Car Share Will Return For One-Off Special To 'Cheer Up' The Nation

The audio-only episode of the hit sitcom will debut later this week.

Peter Kay has announced that he’s bringing back his hit sitcom Car Share for one final spin, in what he’s said is a bid to “cheer up” the nation while we’re all on lockdown.

The comedian has once again teamed up with co-star Sian Gibson for a one-off, audio-only episode of the show, which will debut on BBC iPlayer this Friday.

He explained: “It’s a horrific situation right now we’re all going through and like so many I felt compelled to try and do something positive in an effort to cheer people in some way.

“Sian Gibson, Paul Coleman and myself got together via t’internet and wrote a new short episode of Car Share in an effort to try cheer people up.”

“It’s all happened very quickly,” he continued. “In fact it didn’t exist a week ago.

“Obviously we weren’t able to film anything because of the lockdown but I hope people will use their imagination and enjoy listening.

“I’ve given the episode to the good people at BBC iPlayer and it’ll be available to listen from Good Friday... here’s hoping people enjoying having John & Kayleigh back. Lord knows we need it right now.”

It was previously revealed that Peter would be returning to our screens for the first time in two years, as one of the presenters of the BBC’s upcoming Big Night In event.

The comedian has taken a step back from the spotlight in recent years due to “unforeseen family circumstances”, but did appear in what were supposed to have been the final two episodes of Car Share in 2018.
