This Morning presenter Alison Hammond is facing criticism after misgendering Caitlyn Jenner during Friday’s show.

Alison was speaking to hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford about the current series of I’m A Celebrity – on which Caitlyn is a contestant – when she mistakenly referred to the transgender Olympian and reality star as “he” on more than one occasion.

Discussing a recent exchange between Caitlyn and presenter Ant McPartlin, Alison said: “Caitlyn is officially a Geordie because Ant, last night, tweeted out ‘oh my god, so now Cailtyn has just said “up the toon” live on I’m A Celebrity’.

“So they are just loving Caitlyn at the moment, he keeps coming out with these Geordie sayings, so he’s officially [a Geordie]…”

At that moment, Ruth interrupted, pointedly saying: “She is very funny.”

Alison then agreed: “She’s great, she’s fascinating.”

Viewers watching on social media were quick to point out Alison’s mistake, with many suggesting the presenter should apologise...

A spokesperson for This Morning declined to comment when contacted by HuffPost UK.

Last week, after the first episode of spin-off show Extra Camp aired, presenter Joel Dommett faced similar criticism when he referred to Caitlyn as one of the “strongest guys in camp”. A rep for the show also declined to comment on the matter.

Best known nowadays as a cast member on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Caitlyn Jenner came out as transgender in 2016, first in a much-publicised TV interview with Diane Sawyer and then on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine.

This Morning airs every weekday from 10.30am.
