In the black and white photo, Ben is seen in full costume standing next to the iconic Batmobile.

While the film is not scheduled to hit cinemas until 2016, this new photo will no doubt help bridge the gap for fans eagerly awaiting the release.

The photo would seem to suggest the film is sticking with the darker theme employed by Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy, which saw Christian Bale in the lead role of billionaire Bruce Wayne who takes on the guise of Batman to fight crime in Gotham city.

Other actors to have played Batman in the past include Val Kilmer and George Clooney.

Meanwhile, Henry Cavill will be reprising the role of Superman for the forthcoming film, which he previously played in the 2013 film ‘Man Of Steel’.

However, admittedly not everybody was convinced that Ben was the right choice of casting to play Batman, leading to an outcry from some on Twitter.

However, director Zack Snyder defended the choice, saying: "He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him."
