The rules of biology (obviously) apply in Soapland just as they do the real world, but families tend to work a little differently.

Barely a month goes by without an illegitimate child or secret pregnancy being revealed in ‘Coronation Street’, ‘Emmerdale’, ‘EastEnders’ or ‘Hollyoaks’, and we’ve noticed that it’s often the same men at the centre of the storylines.

Take ‘EastEnders’ lothario Jack Branning. He seemed to spend all of five minutes in the company of Sam Mitchell, but lo and behold, she later welcomed his child.

The same thing happened to Jack - who had another kid before arriving in Walford - with Roxy Mitchell, before he later fathered a fourth baby with wife, Ronnie.

Meanwhile, over on t’cobbles, Mike Baldwin’s many affairs were, ummm, fruitful, but there’s no beating one ‘Dales resident who has a whooping seven kids. Find out who it is in the gallery...

Johnny Briggs' character had three sons, and due to the fact they were the result of short-lived affairs, he didn't actually know any of them were his until later in their lives. Whoops... (credit:Kevin ArgueREXShutterstock)

We're surprised Jack has had time to do anything else, given the amount of time he's spent, ummmm, adding to his family over recent years.

Jack's first child Penny briefly appeared in Walford in 2008, before leaving for France. He secretly impregnated Roxy Mitchell in the same year, before another fruitful affair with Sam Mitchell in 2010.

In the Christmas of that year, he and Ronnie Mitchell had their first baby, James, together. Sadly, the tot died in an episode which marked the start of a controversial baby swap storyline.

Steve already has one child, Amy, following a fling with Tracy Barlow, and in the summer of 2016 he got another two people pregnant.

One was his wife Michelle - which is obviously lovely - and the other, Leanne Battersby during a one-night stand. Which is not so great.
