Ed Balls has admitted he thinks his former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ partner Katya Jones made a “big mistake” by kissing Seann Walsh

The former Labour MP spoke for the first time about the controversy surrounding Katya and Seann, who were filmed kissing in the street earlier this month, despite both being in relationships.

Ed, who famously partnered with Katya on the 2016 series of the BBC ballroom show, also admitted he thinks the so-called ‘Strictly’ curse is a real thing.

Speaking on Monday’s edition of ‘Lorraine’, he told host Carol Vorderman: “Katya and Seann had a very tough time the last few of weeks. Katya made a big mistake. Neil and Katya are good friends of ours, all they can do is come back and keep dancing.”

He added: “There is definitely a ‘Strictly’ curse, year after year. Luckily there’s an age cut off and I was well above the age. [My wife] Yvette’s views was always, when she was asked about it she would say, ‘In his dreams’.”

Seann and Katya narrowly escaped being eliminated from ‘Strictly’ on Sunday night, after landing in the dance-off against Vick Hope and Graziano Di Prima

The Capital FM DJ and her partner found themselves voted off, but Vick has hinted at producer involvement in the decision to save Seann and Katya

“There was a conflab with the producers and then they gave their decision,” Vick revealed on Monday morning’s breakfast show. “There was this stunned silence, it was a really weird atmosphere.”

When co-host Roman Kemp then asked Vick about Shirley’s attitude towards her, she replied: “I think I’ve got to be careful with what I say here. It was from week one people were suggesting something was there, and it’s been consistent.

“Saturday night, I’ve not really been spoken to like that.”

‘Lorraine’ airs weekdays at 8.30am on ITV, while ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ continues on Saturday on BBC One.

Rachel and Pasha later tied the knot and now have two children together, with the TV personality recently trying to distance herself from Strictly's so-called "curse".
