‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ Launch Show Attracts Over 10 Million Viewers... But Still Can’t Top ‘Strictly’

‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ is as popular as ever after more than 10 million of us tuned in to watch the launch of the 16th series.

The jungle-based show, which features Carol Vorderman, Ola Jordan, Wayne Bridge and Scarlett Moffatt, was watched by an average of 10.3 million viewers on Sunday night.

A further 400,000 watched the reality show on catch-up services including ITV+1.

But despite the huge number of us tuning in, it was still beaten by David Attenborough’s ‘Planet Earth II’ on BBC One, which attracted 10.6 million viewers.

However, ‘I’m A Celeb’ peaked with 11.3 million viewers, which was more than Planet Earth II’s 10.9 million peak.

But ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ is still king of the TV schedules. The dance show saw a peak of 11.7 million viewers tune in for Sunday night’s results show, which saw Daisy Lowe leave the competition. That was an increase of 700,000 on last week.

Meanwhile, ‘I’m A Celeb’ hosts Ant and Dec have just signed a new three-year deal to stay at ITV.

The Geordie duo will now remain on the channel on an exclusive basis until at least 2019 in a deal worth a reported £30m.

Ant and Dec said in a statement: “We are absolutely delighted to be extending our relationship with ITV, to continue on the three shows we love as well as exploring further opportunities both in front of and behind the camera.

“This deal will take us past the 20-year mark with ITV and we couldn’t be happier.”

The duo sparked rumours they may leave ITV to join Amazon Prime or Netflix earlier this year, when they said they were unsure about returning to ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
