Grammys 2019: Lady Gaga Pulls A Nicole Kidman With Her Applause Technique

Put your hands up, make 'em touch.

Sunday night was a big one for Lady Gaga, as she took home three Grammys at this year’s awards, but she also earned herself an arguably even more distinguished title.

Yes, we’re pleased to announce that Gaga is the latest inductee into the ‘Weird Celebrity Applause’ hall of fame.

For a while, Nicole Kidman has been carrying the title of weirdest celebrity clap, for her effort at the 2017 Oscars. In fact, let’s relive that now, shall we?

During Sunday night’s Grammys, though, Gaga was caught on camera showing her appreciation for Kacey Musgraves’ performance, but ended up raising eyebrows with her “unique” technique for applauding…

As it turns out, though, she does have a history with this sort of thing...

...and when we cast our minds back, we were reminded of this moment from her guest spot on RuPaul’s Drag Race back in 2017...

Pretty ironic given she supposedly “lives for the applause”, right?

As well as grabbing attention from the audience, Gaga was also among the stand-out performances of the night, performing the Bradley Cooper duet Shallow as a solo rendition, while her co-star was in the UK for the Baftas.

Her performance got a bit of a mixed reaction, though, as despite the down-tempo nature of the song, the star was fully ready to rock out, culminating in lots of head-banging, hair-swishing and jerking dance moves.

The A Star Is Born cut won two awards at this year’s Grammys, including Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Song Written For Visual Media.

Gaga also picked up Best Pop Vocal Performance for her reimagined version of the title track from her 2016 album Joanne.
