“Saturday March 24th, 1984, Shermer High School, Shermer, Illinois.” So said Anthony Michael Hall in the opening voice over for one of the most famous teen movies of the Eighties.

That’s right – The Breakfast Club met exactly 30 years ago today for a weekend detention that would change the lives of five fictional characters and launch the career of director John Hughes, who went on to make some of the most memorable movies of the decade, including Weird Science, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Planes, Trains And Automobiles and Uncle Buck.

The cast featured several founder members of the Brat Pack, including Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy. All are still alive, however Hughes died in 2009, having spent the nineties and noughties as a writer.
