The ‘Coronation Street’ team will be pleased to hear that over eight million viewers tuned in to watch #CorrieLive on Wednesday night, though sadly it wasn’t enough to triumph over ‘Great British Bake Off’.

Figures from Barb indicate that an average of 8.09 million viewers saw Kylie Platt murder Callum Logan live on ITV, with another 276k tuning in to watch the episode on ITV+1 an hour later.

The cast rehearsed the episode for two weeks

The impressive figures make the show the highest-rated ‘Corrie’ episode since 28 May, when the Victoria Court explosion aired. However ‘Bake Off’ just pipped ITV to the post, with an average audience of 8.7million.

The figures also reveal that a number of viewers flicked straight over to watch the last half-an-hour of the BBC baking competition, as it peaked with 9.25 million people tuning for the last 15 minutes.

Bosses promises that #CorrieLive would include plenty of drama, and fans weren’t let down, as drug dealer Callum was killed within the first 15 minutes of the show.

Friday’s episode will feature the fallout from the murder, as the Platt family struggle to decide what to do, after putting the body in their basement.
