'Hypocrisy, Shame, Embarrassment': Stars Condemn Trump Supporters Who Stormed US Capitol

Chris Evans, Pink and John Legend were among those who expressed their outrage at the rioting.

Celebrities condemned violent scenes in Washington DC on Wednesday, as hundreds of Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol as Congress met to certify the results of the election he lost.

President-elect Joe Biden blasted the protestors’ insurrection as rioters clashed with police as the heart of US democracy went into lockdown.

Four people are dead, including one woman who was shot, CNN reported

Stars across the entertainment industry expressed their outrage on social media as the unprecedented events unfolded.

Captain America star Chris Evans said he was “speechless,” before tweeting: “Just think of the carnage had they not been white.

“So many people enabled this,” he added.

Pink said she was “ashamed” of events in the US capital, calling it a “sad day for America”. 

Comedian and actor Kevin Hart said the events that unfolded inside the Capitol building showed the “2 completely different Americas that we are living in”.

“If these people were Black they would have all been shot dead,” he posted on Instagram. “This shit is past the word sad....at this point it’s pure disrespect to all people of colour.

“Why can’t we see this situation handled the same way that we have seen our people handled repeatedly....when the armed officers are supposed to use force they don’t....Shit is fucking SAD!!!!!”

Sex And The City star Sarah Jessica Parker called the events “unimaginable and disgraceful”. 

“So many to hold responsible. You know who you are,” she tweeted. “You dismissed the violent, divisive, cruel rhetoric. You made excuses. Cowards He/you are not leaders.”

Frozen star Josh Gad also said the police’s treatment of the protesters was unacceptable.

He tweeted: “This is either a dereliction of duty by the Capital Police or a complicit desire to not plan for the known threat of chaos today.

“Either way, this is inexcusable. If you can be prepared for imaginary ANTIFA protestors, you had no business not prepping for these actual terrorists.”

Singer John Legend also said that those who “voted for this tragic shitty narcissist mess of a president bears responsibility for this debacle today”. 

He tweeted: “He has shown you exactly who he was all along. You still supported him. You are complicit in the attempted destruction of the country. You are not a patriot.”

Khloe Kardashian said she was “sick to her stomach” at seeing the “epitome of white privilege” in action. 

Marvel star Mark Ruffalo tweeted: “The reality and shame of this country. Now we all see it. Today revealed the true enemies of this nation.”

James Corden branded Trump a “lunatic” who had “hijacked” the US in sombre monologue during the opening of his Late Late Show.

The presenter described the events as a “crazy, sad day, a day that will go down as a dark one in the long history of America”.
